Serchilo will replace Google
A new idea that will rule the world: Serchilo is a new powerful combination of a search engine and a short-cut-list. You have access to all kinds of online database, from Google to Ebay, from Amazon to Google Maps. Instead of going to Google and search for them, you simply you go Serchilo, type “a terry pratchett” and it gives you all Amazon books of Terry Pratchett. And it does not stop there: users can create new shortcuts by using a very simple programming language. And if you don’t know what shortcuts exist, just type one letter and all possible shortcuts are presented to choose from. Serchilo is created by Potsdam Student Georg Jähnig (Georg, if you read this, let’s meet soon in person) and he also maintains a blog with latest updates of the search engine.

Thanks for your nice description! There are also similar projects, but only Serchilo combines the following:All commands are stored in a wiki, so everybody may add or edit them. They are free as well. They can be defined with more arguments or with regular expressions, e.g. db berlin, hamburg, 12.00 or eur-czk 10.
Users may define personalized commands and “overwrite” general commands with their own ones.
You don’t even need to go to the Serchilo homepage if you install the search plugin into your browser.

Nice serch engine! But isn’t a kind of basic version of serchilo already included in opera? Ok, the opera included version might not be customizable (I just don’t know), but this is of course reducing the impact of serchilo.
Anyway, good to know…

Yes, the idea of shortcuts comes basically from Opera. Serchilo’s advantages are:
- the shortcuts are saved online, so you have them everywhere, not only on your computer
- if a search engine link changes only one user has to fix it and all others do benefit from that
- Serchilo allows shortcuts with more arguments (db berlin, hamburg)
- Serchilo helps you while typing – you do not need to remember all shortcuts
