Studytour into the Russian Blogosphere

Blogging was invented in Russia in the 19th century by Wladimir Odoevsky:

You need to know that in many houses, especially those well connected, such journals are published, having replaced regular correspondence. The journals usually provide information about the hosts’ good or bad health, family news, various thoughts and comments, small inventions, as well as invitations; in case of a dinner invitation, also the menu. Besides, for communicating in emergency, friends’ houses are connected by means of magnetic telegraphs that allow people who live far from each other to talk to each other.

The Russian Blogosphere is alive and very vivid – and it’s time to explore it more in detail. I would like to conduct a small study trip to Russia. Within four weeks, I want to meet with Russian journalists, Russian bloggers and Russian PR-people. I want to talk with them about issues such as the development of social networks in Russia, the networks between bloggers, the relationship to the classic media, the freedom of speech and free press in Russia and how blogging changes classic public relation in Russia.

There are a number of bloggers out there covering Russia. I have compiled a small list of Russian Blogs at the Blog-O-Pedia. I hope that other bloggers, such as Krusenstern, Clausewitz2, Der Unbequeme, Natascha from Natcast, Johnson’s Russia List or MarcMacKinnon can help me with providing some contacts – maybe they even want to join me on the trip? Or other bloggers? Feel free to contact me if you are interested.

For a first glimpse into the blogosphere, check this article by Krusenstern (also worth reading: his article on gender distribution in the Russian blogosophere) and this article on Russian Cyberspace.

The media situation is far from ideal in Russia, given attacks on journalists and an increasing unified press landscape. Nevertheless, against all odds there are niches for freedom of press in Russia – and I would like to find them.

Aber bei dir in Blog-O-Pedia fehlen Russischen Blogs und Blogplattformen. Interessieren die dich nicht?
