StudiVZ, Data Security vs. the CCC
Carbogno and Fixmbr called a dispute between the CCC and StudiVZ on data security to my attention. Apparently StudiVZ-investor Holtzbrinck claimed in an interview that the data was secure and even the Chaos Computer Club had unsuccesfully tried to hack into the system. A few hours later, the StudiVZ blog was captured and somebody announced the following message (screenshot, text) on the StudiVZ-blog (which is now down):
Dear StudiVZ-Users
The new owner of your personal data, Konstanin Urban of Holtzbrinck Networks apparently also does not understand anything about security, just as the simulators to which you have given your data. Urban claims that the Chaos Computer Club has “unsuccesfuly tried to hack the system” but now everything is safe.[...]
This is completely wrong. The Chaos Computer Club does not participate in these “Please-Hack-Us”-Games like announced by StudiVZ. It happens that some weirdoes claim to act “in the name of the CCC”, which propably has happened here. However, this has nothing to do with the CCC.
The Chaos Computer Club deals with more important things, such as the loss of trust because of voting machines, the dangers of biometric passports and the total surveillance through the storage of data.Maybe you have a better purpose then to voluntarily throw your data into the mouth of a profit-oriented company. Get a life, the real world outside and the real problems of humanity.
