www.g8-germany.info updated its website with infos on all the activities surrounding the G8 summit, Civil Society activities both running up to and during the G8. They also offer a tool for announcing events and activities in your own countries.
The G8-Germany team is planning at least four G8-related events at the World Social Forum in Nairobi, which will take place from January 20-25. For most of these events, there are no clear dates yet:
- January 21st: High-level panel discussion “What do the Poorest (P8) have to say to G8?” – with representatives from Africa (Bishop Dandala, Agnes Aboum), India (Vandana Shiva) and Germany (German Development Minister, Association of German Development NGOs – VENRO).
- January 22nd or 23rd: Panel discussion: “Legitimacy of G8: Should we try to influence their agenda or should they be substituted by other institutions?” – with representatives of GCAP, African and German Civil Society and activists.
- January 22nd or 23rd: Planning workshop: “The G8 2007 Alternative Summit” – How do we increase International participation?
- January24th: Workshop and info-event: “How is Civil Society preparing for G8 2007 in Germany?” – How do we increase International participation? With presentations from all parts of German Civil Society and International Networks.
It is clear by now, that the Sherpa-Stakeholder meeting in Bonn will be in the afternoon of April 26, 2007. For the day before that, there are plans for an international Civil Society Forum on G8.
