UN Youth Delegates and the German Youth Council
As far as I know, Germany has one of the most interesting systems to choose its delegates to the United Nations Youth summits in the framework of its General Assembly in New York.In Germany, there are a large number of youth organisations that promote international cooperations. Unfortunately, there is no real coordination between these youth organisations. However, the German DNK (the German National Commitee for International Youth Works) used to think that they it is the most relevant player in this field. However their international work was not transparent, not participative and quite ineffective.
This has not changed much in the last years, but at least some new ideas were created that helped to make their work more approachable. The two youth delegates chosen through a selection process can be any young people fitting the criteria. They only have to apply at www.jugenddelegierte.de and they don’t need to belong to one of the larger German Youth organsisations.
This is of course, only the first step. Quite clearly, these youth delegates and their team could help connecting the various youth initiatives working on international politics. However, for that to take place, the German DNK first to create a different attitude towards non-organized young people.
