Model G8 Simulation 2007

After attending the Model G8 simulation 2006 in St. Petersburg, me and some friends from the German Youth Press and other organisations are thinking about hosting another simulation of the G8 summit in April 2007.

Currently we work on a concept to present to Dr. Pfaffenbach, the sherpa of the German delegation. The problem is of course finding a balance between a simulation in which the G8 process, which is already difficult to simulate because of its long-term character with various overlapping structures, and a real discussion among the participants about the achievements and failures of the G8 summits and ideas on how to make it better.

Update from November 2nd: Last night we had a meeting at the Politikfabrik which was very productive. Our (small) team has now grown to a number of about 15 to 20 people. We distriuted research tasks among each other to analyse the various participants in the G8 process and agreed to meet again on November 20th, 20.30pm at the Politikfabrik. Also discussions with our partners seem to be going well.

[...] The problem with the agenda is of course that many of the issues remain highly disputed and it is unclear whether they make it to the G8 discussion table. I don’t know where Ulrich Schäfer from the Süddeutsche Zeitung got his news from, but apparently he has good contacts into the Chancellor’s Office. I will try to confirm this by attending a conference in Berlin today about the G8 Energy Policy where German’s sherpa Bernd Pfaffenbach will be attending. I and some friends want to present him an idea for a Model G8 conference. [...]
